Biography
Noel Boaz, Ph.D., M.D. is Director of the Laboratory of Biological Anthropology and Anatomy, as well as founder and President of its umbrella nonprofit organization, the Integrative Centers for Science and Medicine, in Martinsville, Virginia. He is a Senior Fellow of the Virginia Museum of Natural History, at which he served as founding Director and Curator of Biological Anthropology. A student of Clark Howell and Sherwood Washburn at UC Berkeley, his current research focuses on Miocene paleoanthropology of North Central Africa and earliest hominin origins. In the midst of teaching Gross Anatomy he entered medical school and earned his M.D. in order to integrate human evolution and medicine. He is the author of Evolving Health (2002, Wiley) and co-author of an introductory textbook in Biological Anthropology. He is working on plans for a medical school curriculum based on Evolutionary Medicine and Global Health and welcomes collaboration.
