Retired veterinary pathologist currently interested in how the systemic components of the acute-phase response (e.g. fever, anorexia, cachexia, anemia) fit with local and regional innate defenses in infections and cancer. Related to this is how stressors can be used in defense as well as how stressors can be countered. Also interested in how genomic conflict is controlled in the reproductive system, as well as understanding the basis and functionality of sentience/consciousness (especially as informed by evolutionary biology).
